Table Top Chest Artist Signed #176-14 SOLD

Status: Sold
Description:
This item, I would have to say, is the best piece that I acquired from the deaccessioning of the Delaware Toy & Miniature Museum. The finish and workmanship of the table top wooden chest with one drawer is truly incredible. Front and drawer bow out. It is dark wood--from what I can decipher--elm wood and with a miniscule light wood inlay, most likely tulip wood, on the top edge, bottom and outlining the drawer. It is signed, numbered and dated 1982, but, unfortunately, I have not been able to read the signature--I can only make out: Hand Made by ........ G. Wood elm........ G. Perhaps someone else can make out the rest of the wording from my pictures. But, the quality of this chest speaks for itself, for the form, execution and splendid smooth finish are some of the best I have ever encountered. The drawer has 2 miniscule brass pull handles and the tiny legs are splayed in the Hepplewhite style. Heigh is 1/2", length is 1 3/4", depth is 7/8" at widest point. Excellent condition.
